When you get up out of the bed
I feel my body suggesting that this hurts
That we are being abandoned
So I snuggle up with it
And remind it
Of all the little pleasures of our routine
The way we spend our mornings alone
My body and I
There will be deep breaths
There will be a hot cup of tea
And my journal
There will be birds
And frogs
And crickets
Singing outside all the open windows
There will be the little cat
Who has been impatiently waiting for us to wake up
And there will be love, as much as we want
In fact the love is here now
In this bed where you are not
There is no need to call after you
Or long for you to stay
When you have reason to go
So it’s a beautiful morning
Still, the petulant animal of my body
Insists that it must have
The animal of your body
And makes a little pearl out of your leaving
To bring out in the bath later in the day
To show it to me and say I told you so
Very good
